Global Religious Leaders Unite for Earthquake Recovery in Myanmar and Thailand

HWPL World Interfaith Prayer Conference: Prayers for Peace and Earthquake Recovery in Myanmar and Thailand

Religious leaders from around the world came together to support the recovery efforts for the recent major earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand.

Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an international peace organization, announced the ‘HWPL World Interfaith Prayer Conference: Prayers for Peace and Earthquake Recovery in Myanmar and Thailand’ on Saturday, April 5, 2025. The prayer conference would be held online and followed by a month-long relay prayer initiative.

On March 28, a devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar and Thailand, resulting in approximately 3,000 casualties and leaving thousands displaced. In response, HWPL organized this global prayer conference to provide comfort, strengthen international solidarity, and promote tangible assistance for the affected areas.

Religious leaders from over 10 countries participated in this global initiative, offering prayers for the swift recovery of the earthquake-affected regions. This event promoted peace, solidarity, and humanitarian support while raising awareness about disaster relief efforts.

The participation of not only religious leaders but also the general public aimed to strengthen international solidarity through the power of prayer. Additionally, HWPL will utilize the online platform Padlet to facilitate a month-long relay prayer initiative, allowing people worldwide to share their prayers and messages of support.

Venerable Nanavamsa, a Lecturer of Sitagu Ketumati Buddhist Academy from Myanmar, said, "I received warm information from HWPL that HWPL is planning to hold a prayer meeting for religious leaders to continuously share updates about the earthquake situation in Myanmar and Thailand. I attended the prayer meeting as a spiritual leader. Along with members of HWPL, religious leaders from different backgrounds gathered together to demonstrate one mind. Such a meeting was invaluable. Your prayers and messages of solidarity have provided immense comfort during this difficult time."

Another participant, Professor Alfred Stephen, the Church of South India’s advisor from India, said, “Let us also pray for our contentment and repentance. May God bring peace of mind and hope to those people in pain. We are sorry, our dear fellow brothers and sisters in Myanmar and Thailand. And we are with you in our soul and spirit in your suffering and struggle. We are praying that God will wipe all your tears.”

HWPL has been committed to global peace initiatives, fostering interfaith harmony and humanitarian action. The prayer conference was a significant step in furthering these efforts, strengthening international solidarity, and aiding in the recovery of the earthquake-affected areas.

In the wake of recent natural disasters, HWPL has initiated a global campaign rooted in international solidarity. Titled “Spreading Messages of Healing Like Dandelion Seeds,” the initiative began with an interfaith prayer gathering and continues to gather heartfelt messages and prayers from around the world.

The campaign seeks to extend hope and encouragement to those affected by the earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand, uniting people across borders through compassion and shared humanity. Open to global participation until the end of April, the campaign invites individuals to join via the link below.
