MTN Rwanda in partnership with Rwanda TVET Board launches an Inter TVET competition

MTN Rwandacell PLC (MTN Rwanda) in partnership with Rwanda TVET Board (RTB) have proudly announced an Inter TVET competition across the country. This initiative falls within the economic empowerment and education pillar of the MTN Corporate Social Investment (CSI) strategy and marks a significant milestone for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) schools across the nation, for the first time in Rwanda.

Through this initiative, MTN Rwanda is joining forces with the Rwanda TVET Board (RTB) to extend the reach of the Inter TVET competition to all Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) schools nationwide. This inclusive competition invites participation from every TVET institution, provided their projects demonstrate feasibility, solve real world problems, showcase revenue-generating potential, and champion diversity and inclusivity.

The primary objective of this competition is to foster a spirit of healthy competition and collaboration among these institutions, with a dedicated focus on pivotal areas such as environment, agriculture, education, financial services, and health. Through this collective effort, the competition aspires to generate innovative homegrown solutions that can significantly enhance the well-being of our communities.

“We are dedicated to our commitment of fostering empowerment for the youth through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Rwanda. Investing in their development is an investment in future leaders, offering them a platform to innovate and contribute to the advancement of our country. At MTN Rwanda, we see it as our duty to utilize our platform and brand to serve and inspire young minds, encouraging them to embrace innovation and creativity from the very beginning. Through the Inter TVET competition, we aim to propel the next generation to shape a brighter and secure future, aligning with our vision for a connected and thriving Rwanda," expressed Mapula Bodibe, MTN Rwanda Chief Executive Officer.

This partnership underscores our collective commitment to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and inclusivity in TVET, empowering schools across the country to contribute meaningfully to economic and social development for Rwanda’s progress.

Rwanda TVET Board Director General, Paul Umukunzi highlighted “Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) schools are dynamic and provide a platform for students to showcase their skills and embrace innovation. We are excited to witness how the students will utilize this competition to enhance their learning experience. We thank MTN Rwanda for initiating this competition and taking on the pivotal role of mentoring our students during the incubation period. I believe all the participants will learn the vital connection between hands-on expertise and cutting-edge technology which they will use to generate solutions for the advancement of their communities and country at large.”

The shortlisted TVET schools will undergo an incubation period between 27 November and 1 December 2023 where leaders from government institutions and MTN Rwanda will mentor them.

This will be followed by a Pitch Day on 4 December 2023 which will give the TVET schools an opportunity to present their projects to a panel of judges. The top three most impactful projects will be awarded Rwf5,000,000, Rwf3,000,000, and Rwf2,000,000, respectively, to exemplify appreciation for their outstanding contributions to community development on 8 December 2023.

Bodibe concluded “We wish all the TVET schools the very best and encourage the students to embrace this opportunity for innovation and the development of digital solutions. We are confident in their ability to positively impact the future and contribute to Rwanda’s progress.”
