RURA Introduces New Bus Stops in Kigali for Holiday Season Travel

As the festive season approaches, the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) has announced new bus stops across Kigali to help manage the high volume of travelers during the end-of-year celebrations.

With many people traveling across the country for Christmas and New Year, RURA has taken steps to ensure smoother travel and reduce congestion at key terminals.

During this time of year, there is a significant increase in the number of travelers, which often leads to a shortage of public transport vehicles and heavy traffic, particularly at the Nyabugogo bus terminal.

To address this, RURA has put in place measures that will be implemented from December 23 to 24, 2024, and again from December 30 to 31, 2024.

For passengers traveling on the southern routes, including Kamonyi, Muhanga, Ruhango, Nyanza, Huye, Nyamasheke, Karongi, Ngororero, Gisagara, Rusizi, Rutsiro, and Nyaruguru, buses will now depart from Nyamirambo, near Stade Pelé.

Passengers traveling on the eastern routes, such as Rwamagana, Kayonza, Gatsibo, Nyagatare, Ngoma, and Kirehe, will board buses at the Kabuga Bus Terminal.

Those heading north, including passengers from Gicumbi, Nyagatare via Gicumbi, Rutindo, Musanze, Rubavu, Burera, Gakenke, and Nyabihu, will use the Nyabugogo Bus Terminal, while those traveling to Bugesera will depart from the Nyanza Bus Terminal in Kicukiro.

RURA is encouraging all passengers to plan their trips in advance by purchasing tickets early to avoid the usual holiday rush. Staff from RURA, the City of Kigali, and other relevant authorities will be on hand to assist travelers and ensure their journeys go as smoothly as possible.

As people head home to celebrate with family and friends, RURA asks for travelers’ patience and understanding in case of any challenges that may arise during this busy time.

By preparing early and following the new guidelines, everyone can enjoy a more efficient and stress-free travel experience this holiday season.
