Ukraine to open embassy in Rwanda

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba visited Rwanda, where he met with President Paul Kagame and later Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Vincent Biruta.

The Rwandan Presidency has revealed that Kuleba and Kagame discussed the conflict in Ukraine and explored ways to support peace initiatives aimed at resolving the crisis.

"I was honoured to be received by Rwandaʼs President Paul Kagame. Grateful to Rwanda for its solidarity with Ukraine. I reiterated Ukraine’s strong interest in developing relations with Rwanda based on mutual respect and benefits. I am impressed with Rwanda’s economic progress." said Kuleba

An objective that has been set to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is to broaden Ukraine’s presence in Africa, Kuleba said.

"Following our thorough analysis, we planned to set up new embassies in African countries, one of which we will open in Rwanda. The Rwandan side has already given its official agreement to the creation of a Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Kigali," Ukrainian media quoted Kuleba as saying in a statement circulated by the Foreign Ministry’s press service.

At their meeting, the foreign ministers discussed Ukraine’s "peace formula", food security in Africa, Ukrainian grain exports as part of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, and the Grain from Ukraine humanitarian program.

The parties also signed a memorandum on political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Ukraine and Rwanda and agreed to hold the two countries’ business forum soon. Kuleba invited Biruta to visit Ukraine.
