Uganda and Rwanda Shine in ILT20 Continent Cup

Uganda is making a strong impression at the ILT20 Continent Cup, while Rwanda secured second place after a 25-run win over Botswana on Wednesday at Gahanga International Stadium.

Botswana won the toss and chose to bowl first, allowing Rwanda to set a target. Rwanda scored 168 runs in 20 overs, losing eight wickets. Botswana started strong, scoring 80 runs off the first 32 balls without losing a wicket. But from the 9th over, Rwanda’s bowlers took control, eventually dismissing Botswana for 143 runs in 20 overs.

Rwanda’s Rukiriza Emile was named Player of the Match. He took four wickets for 24 runs from 24 balls and also scored 29 runs, including seven runs off four balls.

Earlier in the day, Uganda defeated Nigeria by 23 runs. Uganda set a target of 151 runs, and Nigeria fell short, scoring only 128 runs. Uganda’s bowlers dismissed nine Nigerian batsmen to seal the win.

Currently, Uganda leads the standings with 14 points. Rwanda is in second place with 6 points. Both Nigeria and Botswana have 4 points each.

The tournament will run until December 14, 2024, and will contribute to the ICC monthly rankings. In the latest ICC standings, Uganda is ranked 22nd, Nigeria 36th, Botswana 50th, and Rwanda 63rd.
